The Under-Wear Saga.....

Disclaimer#
This post does not contain anything obscene or vulgar( if that is wat u perceive by seeing the picture)......read on to know more.....

Shefali Jariwala( the kaanta laga chic....short memories ehhh) shot to fame because of it, Saif in Salaam-namaste created a "copycat" following with it and many other countless models got their break due to this piece of clothing( remember Dalip Tahil of Baazigar, kaho naa pyaar hai fame..), hollywood stars have their own line of collection for it..aahh hmmm we can't forget Victoria's Secret can we? yes my friends, it moves the world(..i guess this is too much...) and plays an important role in todays brand conscious society. yup, with a slight alteration to the HP jingle ( no offense..), i Quote " The UnderWear is Personal Again"......

one of the most essential part of our clothing with an everlasting demand in the market with an estimated worth of Rs 4,000 crore of which Rs 2,000 crore is in the branded section, which is growing at 20 per cent per annum, i guess this surely needs its due..

Bryan Adams gave it a whole new meaning wen he sang...

I wanna be - your hot tub - when you're dippin'
I wanna be - your bathrobe - when you're drippin'
I wanna be - your cocktail baby - when you're sippin'
I just wanna be right there - more than anything I swear.......

i wanna be your UnderWear.........

Not so long ago, in a not so brand conscious underwear world wen players like Victor, Cozy and RR dawn were advertising this piece of garment as a mere commodity ," Yeh aaram ka mamla hai"(V.I.P) entered the market with the thought of creating and marketing a brand for the middle-class men ,starting their journey with briefs with stylish cuts and elastic..priced at an affordable range, it soon created a monopoly of sorts rapidly becoming an household name...

But
as NEO firmly sed in the Matrix " EVERYTHING THAT HAS A BEGINNING HAS AN END"....yup it did come to an end ..not the company(V.I.P is still going strong with a growth rate greater than 20%..) but the monopolistic nature in the market. The regional players like the sallu-sunny advertised "ye aandhar ki bat hai"(Rupa),Lux, Amul and Dollar that could affect the VIP giant a little, along with tommy hilfiger, recently provogue and Jockey, with jockey being the only
foreign brand to have managed to move into the market successfully.
Brands like Jockey became a huge hit with the youth (both the sexes) for largely 2 reasons...
  1. it was an "international brand"..
  2. but still came at an affordable price...if u dint know, guys jockey rio is almost around Rs 80/-, jockey bikini around Rs 120/- and another jockey variety( can't remeber the name) is priced at around Rs 90/-.{ prices for MEN undergarments}..
the common perception these days is that" brands maketh a person"...if u r branded ur cool else u r just another guy. most of them would argue otherwise stating Facts like more comfort, better material, nice fitting( hmmmmm..) which too mite be true but for a handful(..including me!!!!),the not so brand-dependent people, but the bottom line still remains the same. no wonder different other MN undergarment companies wanna set up shops out here..with a brand crazy crowd with large disposable incomes, thanks to our booming economy, who would wanna stay behind!!!!!!

So next time wen u see a guy or a girl "Showing Off" their undies with a Jockey or a vanity Fair label on it, don't be shocked...its an "IN" thing.....yup for a mad brand crazy crowd..its surely in....lolzzzz...

Welcome to the Underwear world........ :-)
